Stage 3 Kidney Disease Patients Feel Nauseous and Tired

Stage 3 Kidney Disease Patients Feel Nauseous and TiredIn stage 3 chronic kidney disease, impaired kidneys can still work by themselves but cause some symptoms easily. Some patients with stage 3 kidney disease start to feel nauseous and tired all the times.

Why do patients with Stage 3 CKD have nausea and vomiting?

Diseased kidneys in stage 3 are functioning at 30%~59% with a moderate decline of glomerular filtration rate (GFR). In this condition, kidneys may lose their ability to keep electrolyte balance and remove waste products and toxins efficiently. The deposits of waste products and electrolyte disorder will trigger nausea and vomiting.

Additionally, nausea may also be one side effect of medications, since patients with Stage 3 CKD often need to take some medications to manage their symptoms and slow down the progression of kidney disease.

Why do patients with Stage 3 CKD feel tired?

The most common cause is renal anemia, which appears when kidneys can’t produce enough EPO to stimulate the body to make red blood cells normally. Renal anemia causes less oxygen and blood to transport to cells all over the body. Then, patients fall into tiredness, fatigue and weakness easily.

Another cause is malnutrition. When kidneys are damaged, patients are often recommended to develop a low-protein diet that may lead to malnutrition if limiting the protein intake too strictly. Then, malnutrition appears, resulting in confusion, fatigue and other problems.

According to the causes of nausea and tiredness for stage 3 kidney disease patients, it is not impossible to make them get rid of these symptoms. This is because kidney disease is still reversible in stage 3, as long as patients can get correct treatment plan. If the patient wants to reverse their kidney damage and improve their overall health condition, he or she is suggested to tell us more about illness condition.
