Why Does Kidney Failure Cause Dyspnea

Why Does Kidney Failure Cause DyspneaDyspnea, also called shortness of breath, is one common complication in kidney failure. It may make it difficult for kidney patients to stay sleeping at night. Do you know what are causes dyspnea for kidney failure patients?

Kidney is one important organ for people's overall health condition. When kidneys fail their ability to do their jobs, a series of disorders in different organs and systems will occur. Some of these problems can induce dyspnea directly.

1. Pulmonary dyspnea

In Kidney Failure, kidneys are unable to determine how much fluid to stay in the body, so extra fluid will retain in the body. Most often, face, ankles, leg, hands, feet, etc, are commonly affected by fluid retention. In severe cases, patients may suffer from edema in lungs, called pulmonary edema, while dyspnea is just one sign of pulmonary edema.

2. Cardiac dyspnea

In clinic, most kidney failure patients finally die of cardiovascular diseases rather than kidney problem. High blood pressure, fluid retention and deposits of waste products and toxins increase the risk of heart problem, leading to cardiac dyspnea.

3. Toxic dyspnea

Normally, kidneys can remove extra urea acid out of the body effectively. In kidney failure, kidney function level is less than 15%, so urea acid will build up in the blood gradually. Accordingly, metabolic acidosis happens easily so as to stimulate peripheral chemoreceptor or excited respiratory center directly. Thereby, patients' respiratory ventilation is increased characterized by difficult breathing.

4. Severe anemia

Severe anemia occurs because of declined production of red blood cells, and then lack of blood and oxygen can cause dyspnea.

In different cases, dyspnea may be due to various disorders, so the treatment should depend on the underlying cause for kidney failure patients. If you are also suffering from breathing problems, you can consult the doctor online to get helpful advices.
