Why Do You Itch With Kidney Failure

why do you itch with kidney failurePatients with kidney failure will have many symptoms, and one of them is they often itch. In this process, there is no damage on patient’s skin, and the itch often appears at night, which disturbs patient’s rest severely. So we may have the question: why patient with kidney failure itch?

This symptom is mainly caused by four ingredients, and here is the list.

Toxin

one of kidney’s major function is filtering toxic substances. When patients have Kidney Failure, their kidney structure and function have been severely damaged. As a result, their kidneys can not filter the toxic substances normally, so lots of wastes will build up in patient’s blood, and urea is among them. Urea can stimulate their skin and make sebaceous gland and sweat gland atrophy, which will cause patient’s itch.

Parathyroid hormone

Kidney has the function of keeping the balance of electrolytes in our body, while patient with kidney failure has metabolic disorder in this aspect. So lots of calciums may accumulate in the skin, which may cause the hyperfunction of parathyroid, and too munch parathyroid hormone can lead to the itch.

Medicines

To slow down the progression of kidney failure, patients need to take much amount of medicines. These medicines often have many side effects to our body, and many cases of itch in kidney failure patients are caused by drug allergy (Consult our nephrologists about the drugs that may cause allergy).

Neuropathy

Patient with kidney failure will have many complications, and in severe cases, patient may even has nervous diseases. Nervous problems can cause many symptoms, so they may cause cutaneous pruritus to kidney failure patients.

As we know, kidney failure is a serious stage to kidney disease patient, and itch is a warning of patient’s condition. In this stage, patient may need dialysis and kidney transplant to prolong his lifetime, and to have a relatively better life, patient must follow the doctor’s arrangements. What’s more, remember to have a good emotion and positive attitude in any time.
