A Right Diet for Patients with Bilateral Renal Parenchymal Changes

A Right Diet for Patients with Bilateral Renal Parenchymal ChangesBilateral renal parenchymal changes mean both kidneys are damaged by harmful substances or abnormal disorders. To protect the remaining kidney functioning tissues, a right diet is very important.

Kidneys are great organs that are responsible for cleansing the blood and eliminating waste products and toxins. Renal parenchyma is kidney functioning part. When it is damaged, a diet with the following requirements is needed.

1. Tight control of sodium intake

Renal parenchyma consists of one million kidney filters, called glomeruli. Normally, these kidney filters can remove extra fluid and sodium from the body timely and maintain correct blood volume. However, when renal parenchyma has abnormal changes, excessive amount of fluid and sodium will build up in the blood. In this case, tight control of sodium intake can help reduce fluid retention and guarantee correct amount of blood volume.

2. Right consumption of protein

On one hand, patients should follow a low-protein diet. On the other hand, at least half of protein intake should come from high-quality protein. Egg white, lean meat, fish and milk are just rich in high-quality protein, so patients with bilateral renal parenchymal disease can add these foods into their diet plan.

3. Increases intake of unsaturated fatty acid

Unsaturated fatty acid like omega-3 fatty acid can help inhibit the inflammatory reactions within kidneys, which are causes of many kidney diseases. Fish oil, flaxseed oil, walnut, and so on, are rich in omega-3 fatty acid.

4. Correct amount of potassium and phosphors

In the early stage, patients don't need to control their intake of potassium and phosphorus. However, if patients suffer from severe kidney damage, they should also arrange a low-potassium and low-phosphorus diet.

These are some general dietary suggested for patients with bilateral renal parenchymal changes. To get a food list to eat and avoid, you can leave your illness description below or email to Kidney dietitians here will reply you in 24 hours.
