eGFR 19, Failed to Find a Matchable Kidney, What Should I Do

Q: due to my Kidney Disease, my eGFR is only 19. And I plan to take Kidney Transplant. However, it is difficult to find a right donor in short time. And I have wait more than 3 years and my kidney conditions worsen day be day. What should I do? I attach my medical report for you.

A: Your eGFR is 19 now which means you have entered the Kidney Failure stage already. And the lower your kidney function is, the faster the disease will progress. And it takes time for you to look for a perfectly matched kidney to transplant. While looking for that, you should not waste any time and you need to stop or slow down the progression of the disease by all means.

I saw the ultrasound report that showed both of your kidneys shrunk. It means not only the glomeruli of the kidneys’ but also the tubules are adversely damaged. I think your urination is more or less affected.

I don’t know how much you know about our kidneys, but I need to tell you that our kidneys are responsible for regulating water and electrolyte balance and acid-base, and they are also responsible for secreting erythropoietine and other necessary substances. The most important function of the kidneys is that, they can filtrate our blood and remove the waste from blood, therefore our lives are sustained. Decrease of kidney function will lead to waste accumulation in the body and as a result, almost all of our body organs will be affected by the waste (toxins).

Your diet now should be scientific which makes you have to ensure enough protein intake because you have proteinuria but to avoid Uremia, the amount of protein should be strictly controlled. However, you should realize one thing, only by Diet can’t control continuing of kidney damage.

A systemic treatment of medical remedy and Lifestyle changes are the way to reverse your kidney damage.
