Causes of Acute Kidney FailureAcute Kidney Failure refers to sudden or constant loss of kidney function. Generally, according to its cause and severity, it is reversible. In special cases, it may be irreversible and it can cause serious conditions. And the followings are three main causes of this disorder.

Reduction of blood flow to the kidneys

Diseases and factors that affecting the blood flow before it reaches to the kidneys and lead to kidney failure include: severe blood loss, heart attack, liver failure, serious burns, dehydration, severe allergic reaction and serious infections, etc.

Direct damage of kidneys

Its mainly the problem of the kidney itself, damaged kidneys will prevent proper filtration of blood or production of urine. Examples of kidney problems may include: inflammation of blood vessel diseases, sudden injury of kidney tissues, cholesterol deposits, toxins, such as alcohol, heavy metals and cocaine.

In addition, there are some medications that can harm the kidneys:

Pain medicines, such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

Antibiotics, such as gentamicin and streptomycin.

Some blood pressure medicines, such as ACE inhibitors and ARBs.

Blockage of urine in the kidneys

The obstruction of urine may occur in any parts from the kidney to the urethra. Generally, it can be bilateral obstruction, which includes pelvis, ureter, bladder and urinary tract. As a single kidney is qualified to excrete the metabolic products, so acute kidney failure are mainly caused by bilateral obstruction.

Kidney stones, bladder cancer, blood clots, an injury, or an enlarged prostate can cause a blockage. And if you have long-standing health problems, such as, liver disease, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure, or obesity, you may at a higher risk of getting acute renal failure.
