Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) and Frequent Urination

Henoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) and Frequent UrinationHenoch-Schonlein Purpura (HSP) is a type of vasculitis, a group of disorder that cause blood vessel inflammation. Though this condition can affect anyone, it's commonest in children and young adults. The most serious complication of Henoch-Schonlein Purpura is kidney damage (Purpura Nephritis). Patients who develop kidney problem may suffer from frequent urination.

Causes of frequent urination in Henoch-Schonlein Purpura

The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs located at the back of the abdomen. All the blood in the body passes through the kidneys several times per day, and it is here that the blood is filtered and cleaned.

In our kidneys, glomerulus functions to filter the blood and kidney tubules play the role of reabsorbing nutritions and most of the fluid that are filtered by glomeruli.

For people with Henoch-Schonlein Purpura and kidney disease, they have decreased kidney function. When kidney tubules are impaired and can not work properly to display reabsorption function, fluids fluids by glomeruli will be discharged as the form of urine. As a result, patients will experience increased urine frequency.

Besides, people with HSP who develop kidney problem may also have symptoms such as blood in the urine, swelling or edema, and high blood pressure. In some cases, Henoch-Schonlein Purpura leads to End Stage Renal Disease. Till then, dialysis or a kidney transplant should be adopted to maintain life. Adults are at great risk than children of developing Kidney Failure.
