Will Stage 2 PKD Cause Protein in Urine

Will Stage 2 PKD Cause Protein in UrineMost often, patients’ Polycystic Kidney Disease will progress into stage 2 at about age 30-40. In this stage, some symptoms begin to present, while protein in urine is just one of these symptoms. If patients find protein in their urine, they should take treatments to alleviate it to prevent further kidney damage.

Five PKD stages and characteristics

Stage 1: It is called emergence period. All kidney cysts in this stage are quite small, so patients don’t have any symptom.

Stage 2: It is growth period. Kidney cysts expand quickly, and patients are about 30~40 years old. Meanwhile, some symptoms begin to appear.

Stage 3: It is called enlargement period. When patients are over 40 years old, some kidney cysts must be larger than 4 cm that begin to damage inherent kidney cells. High blood pressure, proteinuria, hematuria, back pain, hematuria, and so on, may appear one by one.

Stage 4: It is called burst period. Under the effect of external cause, kidney cysts may rupture easily and cause some dangerous problems.

Stage 5: It is uremic stage. Polycystic Kidney Disease has progressed into end stage kidney failure, and patients may need to begin dialysis or kidney transplant.

Stage 2 PKD and protein in urine

From the above analysis, we can know although proteinuria isn’t one common symptom of Stage 2 PKD, some patients do have this problem. This is because kidney charge barrier is damaged by enlarged kidney cysts. Kidneys can filter waste products but keep useful substances in the body is due to their mechanical barrier and charge barrier. Protein in the body carries negative charge, so does kidney charge barrier.
