If I Have PKD Gene, Will It Definitely Propagate To Next Generation

If I Have PKD Gene, Will It Definitely Propagate To Next GenerationPolycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disease. The cysts in patient’s kidney will progress gradually, and they will cause patient to have kidney failure eventually. So if a patient has PKD, will his next generation be sure to inherit that disease?

How is PKD be inherited?

In fact, PKD is divided into autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD).

For patients with ADPKD, most patients’ disease often appear after they are thirty years old, and it often needs a long time to develop from patient’s attack to kidney failure. In fact, if only patient just inherits that gene from one of his patients, he will get this kind of PKD.

For patients with ARPKD, this kind of PKD can appear after a few weeks of patient’s birth. Few patients can grow to adult, and most patients will die when they just live for several years. But on the hand, the rate is low for people to get this disease.

Will it definitely for PKD patients’ next generation to inherit this disease?

Few ARPKD patients can grow to adult, so it is ADPKD patients that can have children, and every patient has half ratio to inherit his gene to his every child.

For example, if both of the parents have PKD gene, the ratio that their child do not have PKD is one fourth, and the ratio that patient gets this disease is three fourth. If just one parent is PKD patient, the ratio for his child to have PKD is one fourth.

Thereby, PKD patient’s child may not get this disease, but his child always has a high ratio to get this disease.
