Alcohol and Nephrotic Syndrome

Elevate Blood Pressure

People who drink alcohol excessively (over two drinks per day) have a one and a half to two times increase in the frequency of high blood pressure (hypertension). Hypertension is the second leading cause for Kidney Damage. The association between alcohol and high blood pressure is particularly noticeable when the alcohol intake exceeds 5 drinks per day.

In addition, the elevated blood pressure also increases the risk to develop heart disease for patients with Nephrotic Syndrome.

Hormone Changes

Furthermore, excess alcohol creates fluctuations in the hormones that govern kidney function with regard to a variety of physiological processes such as blood pressure and blood potassium controls.

Waste Products Deposition

Kidneys work to clean the waste products and excessive fluids in the blood. However, intake of alcohol interfere with the kidney function, which will aggravate the waste products deposition in the blood, causing more symptoms and complications.

Medicine Interference
