Foods Not to Eat With Nephrotic SyndromeNephrotic Syndrome can cause the body to develop heavy proteinuria, severe swelling, hyperlipidemia and hypoproteinemia. To manage these problems, they should find out foods not to eat with Nephrotic Syndrome.

* Too salty foods

Patients with Nephrotic Syndrome usually have obvious swelling, so they should limit their sodium intake to 2,000~3,000 mg one daily. Then, patients should avoid very salty foods including processed meat products, salty condiments, canned vegetables, and so on.

* Foods rich in saturated fat

Saturated fat is often found in animal fat such as butter, cream and lard. Animal foods usually contain rich fat, most of which is saturated fat. Thereby, Nephrotic Syndrome patients are often required to control the intake of animal-based foods, because saturated fat can induce the increase of cholesterol levels and cause inflammation that are bad for Nephrotic Syndrome patients.

* Foods contain incomplete protein

Incomplete protein provides fewer essential amino acids and produces more metabolic wastes, so patients should limit their incomplete protein intake especially plant protein, in order to reduce the burden on kidneys. To meet the body's protein need and not tax the kidneys, patients had better eat more foods rich in complete protein such as egg white and fish.

* Spicy foods

Even though spicy foods haven't been proven to have the direct bad effect on kidneys, these foods may induce or worsen some Nephrotic Syndrome symptoms and complications. For example, hot chilli and mustard may cause some problems.

* Foods high in potassium or phosphorus

In early stage, patients with Nephrotic Syndrome don't need to control their potassium and phosphorus levels. However, if their kidney function declines severely, they should pay attention to their potassium and phosphorus intake.
