Kidney Nephrosis: Cause, Symptoms, Treatment, Tests

Kidney Nephrosis, also known as Nephrotic Syndrome, is a group of symptoms that easily happens in children or teenagers. Read on and get an overview of kidney nephrosis, including its symptoms, cause, treatment and tests.


Many causes can result in kidney nephrosis, if you have one of the following diseases, you are at high risk to develop kidney nephrosis:

- inflammation

- Changes to the immune system (minimal change or lipoid nephrosis)

- Secondary nephrotic syndrome, including amyloidosis, high blood pressure, myeloma, Diabetes, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus,Glomerulonephritis.

Among them, Diabetes and high blood pressure is the leading cause to kidney nephrosis. If your children has one of the mentioned above conditions, please take measures to prevent kidney nephrosis.


The symptoms of kidney nephrosis, may include:

- Forthy urine, foamy urine, or Protein in Urine

- Edema

- Stomach pain

- Hypoproteinemia

- Unexplained weight loss

- Muscle wasting


You may need more than one of the following tests to diagnose the kidney nephrosis, including:

- urine test. Excessive protein makes the urine appear frothy and foamy. A test for albumin/creatinine ratio may be done to measure the amount of albumin in the urine in relation to the amount of creatinine.

- blood test. GFR helps to find how well your kidneys work.

- CT sand or MRI. Using radio-frequency wavelengths and a strong magnetic field to provide clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues.

- ultrasound. It is an examination of the kidneys using sound waves to outline the structure of organs.


The treatment for kidney nephrosis aims at dealing with the cause, alleviate the symptoms and improve kidney functions.

- Diuretics. It is used to increase the production of urine and alleviate the swellings in patients.
