Causes Of Dyspnea After Dialysis

Causes Of Dyspnea After DialysisMost end stage renal disease patients will need dialysis to keep their life. In fact, dialysis can cause many complications to patients. Many patients have the symptom of dyspnea after dialysis, while patients may be curious about why this symptom appears.

In fact, several reasons can cause patients to have dyspnea.

Hypokalemia

A major cause of patients’ hard breathing after dialysis is hypokalemia. Patients will lose large amount of potassium in the process of dialysis, and the shortage of potassium can cause many symptoms to body health. Such as arrhythmia, ventricular fibrillation, nausea and myasthenia, etc. The most common symptom caused by hypokalemia may be myasthenia, which can cause patients to have hard breathing.

This condition is caused by electrolyte disorder, which is very common in patients who accept dialysis. If patients’ dyspnea just appears after their dialysis, and this condition will not exist very long, patients’ hard breathing may be caused by hypokalemia.

Heart disease

Patients who accept dialysis often have heart diseases, like arrhythmia, heart failure. In these cases, patients may have heart insufficiency, which will cause patients have dyspnea.

Low blood pressure

Patients who accept dialysis often have low blood pressure, and that is because patients have gained too much body weight before their dialysis and their fluid loss in dialysis is too fast. In this condition, patients will have many symptoms, like nausea, vomit, pale face, besides, they are also easy to have hard breathing in this condition.

This is the major reasons of hard breathing which are caused by dialysis. To improve this symptom, patients should take some measures to cope with these conditions. If their hard breathing is caused by hypokalemia, they should eat more foods which contain abundant potassium before their dialysis. If their symptom is caused by heart disease, they should accept the related treatment. Besides, patients should slow the rate of losing water in their dialysis if their hard breathing is caused by the too fast loss of fluid.

In addition, patients may also have dyspnea in other conditions, such as pulmonary edema, but this may have no relation with dialysis. Patients should make sure their symptom, and treat their problem based on their own condition.
