Lower Salt Intake for High Blood Pressure Kidney Disease

Hypertensive Nephropathy,salt intakeDiet plays an important role in managing High Blood Pressure Kidney Disease, especially in early prevention. Unhealthy dietary habit-such as high salt intake- is both harmful to patients and recover of disease.

For patients with Hypertensive Nephropathy, daily salt-intake should limited below 6 gram, Sometimes this intake standard makes dishes tasteless, especially for those who like eating salty food, they can not adhere to this diet standard for a long time because they have already used to it. Therefore, Mushrooms, nori and caraway etc. can be regarded as additives to improve the taste of dishes, some other condiments such as vinegar, sesame paste and soy sauce could also flavour the dishes.

How to lower salt intake?

- Keep track of the sodium content in the foods you eat. Use a food diary to write down the food, serving size, and amount of sodium.

- Use salt-free seasonings in food preparation

- Avoid foods that have 20% or more Daily Value of sodium.

- Avoid canned foods, processed foods and lunch meats, and fast foods

- Select foods that have 5% or less of the Daily Value of sodium (this percentage is listed on the nutritional facts label)

- Read the nutritional facts label on every food package. The amount of sodium is listed on the label.
