What BUN Levels will CKD Patient Need Dialysis  For patient with chronic kidney disease (CKD), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) is a common standard to assess patient’s kidney condition. Kidney disease will decease patient’s kidney function, and BUN level in patient’s body will rise as patient’s kidney function goes down. And at what BUN level will patient need dialysis?

What is the normal level of BUN?

BUN refers to the content of nitrogen in urea, and blood urine nitrogen is a major end product of protein, which should be filtrated out by kidney.

BUN will be filtrated out by kidney continuously, and the decomposition of protein will also produce BUN continuously, so the normal level of BUN changes in a range, and that is 9~20mg/dl.

What BUN levels will patient with CKD need dialysis?

Kidney has strong metabolic ability, and it also has strong compensation. These features of kidney lead to half kidney function will be able to guarantee our body health.
