What Does It Mean If BUN Level Is 29.8

What Does It Mean If BUN Level Is 29.8Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) is a common standard to assess patent’s kidney condition. If patient with kidney disease has a BUN level of 29.8, what does it mean?

What is blood urea nitrogen?

Urea nitrogen is a major end product of protein. One gram protein will produce about 0.3 gram of urea, and about half urea consists of nitrogen. Urea nitrogen is a substance that will be filtered out by kidney, and if patient has high level of BUN, that can cause many obvious problems to patient’s body.

What does a BUN level of 29.8 mean?

In normal condition, the level of urea nitrogen in our blood changes in a stable range, and it is about 9~20mg/dL. Thereby, 29.8mg/dL is a little higher than normal standard.

In fact, if a patient with a BUN level of 29.8, it may also not need to be worried about, but it can also be a dangerous sign.

Many factors can affect patient’s BUN level, like high protein diet, large loss of body fluid, the shortage of blood flow in kidney, etc. But if high BUN level is caused by these factors, the abnormal BUN level can recover to its normal range soon if patient take right measures to cope with, so it may be nothing serious.

Another common cause of high BUN is kidney damage, and if patient’s high BUN is caused by this reason, it will be a bad sign. Our kidneys have strong metabolic ability and strong compensation, and patient’s BUN level will not have obvious rise if only half kidney function is normal. Thereby, if patient’s high BUN level is caused by kidney damage, it means his kidney function is already damaged severely, and patient needs to take measures to cope with his condition positively.

In the end, if you have any problem in dealing with your kidney disease, you can just leave us a message about your condition, and we will give you a detailed reply.
