Stage 5 Kidney Failure in Children: Is Kidney Transplant a Good Choice

Stage 5 Kidney Failure in Children: Is Kidney Transplant a Good ChoiceMajor causes of Stage 5 Kidney Failure in children include genetic diseases like polycystic kidney disease, glomerular diseases, and birth defects. When kids have only 15% of less kidney function left, they may be recommended to get a transplant. While, is Kidney Transplant a good choice for them?

Compared with Dialysis, successful Kidney Transplant may be better option which make it easier for children to live as they did before developing Stage 5 Kidney Failure. However, a transplant is a major surgical procedure with a wide range of disadvantages.

a. Not all kids are good candidates. An extensive medical evaluation will be done to find out if he or she is a good candidate. Some patients are not suitable candidates for transplantation.

b. Long time on waiting list. As of today, there are more than 96,000 people waiting for a kidney donor. So patient may have to wait for long time to find a kidney. Unfortunately, lots of patients die during this waiting process.

c. Potential risks of Kidney Transplant. Short-term risks include rejection, infection and blood clots. Long term risks are often associated to immunosuppressive medications that patients have to take for the rest of post-transplant life.

d. The outlook after kidney transplant is unsatisfactory. On average, a transplanted kidney from a living donor functions for about 20 years, and 10 years of that from a deceased donor. If the new kidney fails, another transplantation is needed.

Though Kidney Transplant is not a perfect treatment for children with Stage 5 Kidney Failure, patients have to choose this treatment because there is no other option in their place.

The good news is that a new alternative treatment for Stage 5 Kidney Failure has been developed, which is called Clear Blood Pollution Therapy. This treatment can help patients to improve kidney function so as to avoid or get rid of dialysis or transplant. If you are interested to know more information, please leave a message in the below.
