Why Hemodialysis Patients Can't Walk Normally

Why Hemodialysis Patients Can't Walk NormallyHemodialysis is one life-prolonging method for Kidney Failure patients, but it is inevitable for hemodialysis patients to be tormented by some health problems. In severe cases, these patients can't walk normally. What is the reason that hemodialysis patients can't walk normally?

Do you have a similar experience?

We have one hemodialysis patient who is on dialysis for 2 years with 30 years old. Now, he is suffering from weakness and can't walk normally. His PTH is high 2370, but he doesn't want to remove his thyroid.

The causes of walking disorders for hemodialysis

Although hemodialysis can do a part of kidney functions, it can't replace kidneys completely. For these patients, several conditions can make them walk abnormally.

The first one is calcium and phosphorus imbalance. Healthy kidneys can determine how much calcium and phosphorus to retain in the body. When kidneys fail to work, they are unable to remove extra phosphorus from the body successfully. This leads to low calcium level, resulting in bone disease and affecting patients' walking ability.

The second one is deficiency of active vitamin D. Failed kidneys can't use vitamin D like they should. This induces bone disease and walking problems.

The third one is high PTH. It has a close link with high phosphorus level and low calcium level in the blood, and it is one cause of renal bone disease.

The last one is swelling. Different from the above causes of renal bone disease, severe swelling is another cause of walking problems. This occurs if patients drink too much water during dialysis session or hemodialysis fails to work adequately.

In summary

Since the causes of walking problem change from person to person, patients should find out the underlying cause before taking any treatment. To get effective treatment suggestion to make you walk normally, leave your question below or send it to
