I. Maintain your blood pressure at doctor-recommended levels.

High blood pressure (hypertension) is one of the major causes of Kidney Disease with Diabetes. Elevated blood pressure damages the small blood vessels in the kidneys, preventing them from properly filtering waste products from the body. Protein in urine is one of the first signs of kidney deterioration and damage.

Keep your blood pressure at targeted levels through diet, medicine, and exercises.

Ⅱ. Control your blood glucose level well.

Poor blood glucose management leads to high blood glucose levels which cause glucose to act like a toxin and damage the kidneys' filter. In turn, this result in Diabetic Nephropathy.

Keep your blood glucose levels low through diet or medication. Do proper exercises. Follow your doctor's instructions concerning self-testing for glucose levels.

Ⅲ. Eat a diet low in protein.

Too much consumption of protein will make kidneys work harder. This can be harmful to people with Diabetes. For this reason, some doctors suggest a low protein diet for those with diabetes, especially when signs of kidney deterioration are already present.

There are no symptoms when diabetic kidney disease first develops. Later, signs of decreased kidney function may occur.
