Frothy Urine in Diabetes

Forthy urine or foamy urine can be seen in some cases of diabetes. If this condition occurs frequently, you should never neglect it as it may indicate serious problems.

Forthy urine in diabetes may be due to heavy protein loss in urine. One of serious complications of diabetes glomerulonephritis. It is a kidney disorder in which the tiny filters that the kidneys make use of for filtering the blood and get rid of waste substances through urine are inflamed.

In right condition, when blood passes through kidneys, the wastes are filtered by kidneys, but the essential substances such as protein will be retained in body. However, if your blood sugar is out of control, it will cause extra strain on the tiny blood vessels, leading to glomerulonephritis. As a result, a large amount of proteins leak into urine, leading to forthy urine. Presence of protein in the urine is known as proteinuria.

As diabetes does not damage the kidneys at one go, it develops gradually and starts affecting kidneys. So if the forthy urine occurs, it may be assumed that your diabetic kidney problem has reached a severe stage.

If forthy urine occurs only occasionally, you need not to worry about it. However, if you have a long history of diabetes and the problem exists for a long time, you should seek for further medical checkup. If you are diagnosed with Diabetic Nephropathy, you should seek for a aggressive treatment immediately. If the treatment is delayed, the kidney damage will become irreversible.

Additionally, there are other possible causes of forthy urine, such as rapid urination, high consumption of proteins at one time, etc. So before visiting a doctor, the above causes should firstly be excluded.
