CKD Stage 4: Why do I Have Pain in Right Knee and Lower Belly

CKD Stage 4: Why do I Have Pain in Right Knee and Lower BellyChronic kidney disease occurs when the organs' tiny filters are progressively impaired over the course of several months to years. In CKD Stage 4, the GFR has declined to 15-30 ml/min. Some patients in this stage may suffer from pain in right knee and lower belly. Here, we would like to make the causes of these problems clear.

Causes of pain in right knee in CKD Stage 4

Pain in right knee may indicate renal osteodystrophy, a common complication of kidney disease and renal failure. This occurs due to the following reasons.

1. Healthy kidneys keep the proper amount of phosphorus and calcium in the body. In CKD Stage 4, the kidneys are not working adequately, excess phosphorus can build up in the blood, causing the body to pull calcium from the bones and making them weak.

2. Kidneys help our body use vitamin D. Diseased kidneys are not able to use vitamin D like it should, causing the bones to get weak.

Causes of lower belly pain in CKD Stage 4

▪ Kidney stones. This is a painful condition where crystals of calcium oxalate or other minerals accumulate in urine to form hard stones.

▪ Kidney infection or pyelonephritis refers to the inflammation of the renal tissue. Other symptoms also include fever, nausea, vomiting.

▪ Arteriosclerosis is a condition in which fats get collected inside the arteries, thereby making them hard.

Pain in right knee and lower belly can affect the quality of life of a person with CKD Stage 4. You are suggested to get yourself check by a doctor to confirm the exact causes. Then corresponding treatment will be adopted to relieve your pain and manage kidney disease well.
