Throwing up and kidney disease

CKD symptoms

Patients with kidney disease often have many symptoms, especially for patients in the late stage of kidney disease. Among these symptoms, patients always have the symptom of throwing up. Patients may be curious about this aspect, and it is also necessary for them to know their symptom well.

The causes of throwing up in patients with kidney disease:
As we know, edema is a common symptom in patients with kidney disease. While for patients in the late stage of renal disease, their edema will be more severe, and they may have edema in their gastrointestinal tracts, which may make patients have disorder in their gastrointestinal tract function.
Besides, when patients have severe kidney damage, there will be many kinds of toxic substances accumulating in patients’ blood. And as the concentration of these toxins rise, they may cause gastrointestinal symptoms like throwing up.

Another common cause of throwing up in patients who have kidney disease is the accumulation of too much urea nitrogen in blood. For patients in late stage of renal disease, the urea nitrogen level in their blood is very high. While this can stimulate the bacteria in gastrointestinal tract to excrete urease, which can make the urea nitrogen break up into ammonia. While ammonia has strong stimulation to gastrointestinal tract, which may make patients have throwing up, anabrosis, loss of appetite, and so on.

What can patients do to relieve this symptom?
A major reason of this symptom is the accumulation of toxic substances in patients’ blood, so patients may need dialysis to remove these toxins in this time.

If patients’ symptom is caused by edema, except for the treatment in medicine, patients should have strict restriction in their diet. Patients already have severe edema in this time, patients may need to add no salt in their diet. Besides, patients should also restrict the fluid intake in this time, and the amount of yesterday’ urine amount plus 500ml may be recommended, or if necessary, they may need to have more strict restriction in the water intake.
