Face Puffy And Kidney Disease

Patients with kidney disease may have face puffy, and that is caused by patients’ edema. In the early stage of kidney disease, patients may have swelling around their eyes, and as their kidney disease progresses, the edema on their face will become more obvious.

Why do patients have face puffy?

Face puffy is caused by patients’ edema, and edema is a common symptom to patients with kidney disease. As we know, kidney has the function of excreting the wastes out from our body, such as fluid, metabolic wastes and some toxic substances in our blood. When our kidneys are damaged, there will be the retention of sodium and water in our body, and this will cause patients to have edema.

On the other hand, hypoproteinemia is another major reason that can cause patients to have edema. The shortage of protein makes patients’ blood osmotic pressure low, and the fluid in patients’ blood vessels will flow into tissue space, which will cause edema. Beside, when the effective blood flow reduces, which can cause the excretion of the natriuretic hormone reducing. That will promote kidney vessels’ reabsorption to sodium, and that can increase the retention of sodium and water in patients’ body, which will aggravate patients’ edema.

How to treat face puffy?

Certainly, to treat this symptom, which means it is to improve patients’ edema symptom.

There are three aspects that are necessary to be changed. One is patients’ diet. Patients should have low sodium intake, because this can affect patients’ edema obviously. Patients should take 3~5g/d salt per day, and if necessary, patients can also reduce this value. Besides, patients should also control their fluid intake. The recommended amount of water is patients’ urine amount of yesterday plus 500ml.

On the other hand, patients should accept treatment to improve their symptom. Diuretic may be used. Protein may need to be transported into patients’ blood directly, which can improve the blood osmotic pressure. Besides, some therapies like medicated bath and micro chinese medicine osmotherapy are effective in improving patients’ condition.

The root of patients’ edema is their kidney damage. Thereby, improving patients’ kidney function is the only way to improve patents’ symptom persistently. If patients’ kidney damage is not very severe, it can be completed to well control patients’ condition. While if patients’ condition is too severe, it may be impossible to stop its progression, but patients’ condition can be improved greatly.

In the end, it is very important for patients with kidney disease to have a good emotion, which can help improve patients’ condition greatly.
