Low Protein

Patient with CKD has damaged kidneys. At this time, kidney lose its functions of excreting some wastes, and urea is one of them. Urea is the metabolic product of protein, and is excreted through urine. Patient with CKD is recommended with low amount of protein intake, because excess protein may increase the workload of kidney.

Low sodium

One severe complication of CKD is high blood pressure, and high amount of sodium can aggravate high blood pressure, so low intake of sodium is necessary to reduce the risk of it. What’s more, with damaged kidney, edema often appears in patient with kidney disease. One reason which causes edema is the retention of sodium and fluid in body, so lowering the amount of sodium intake is also necessary for treating edema.

High vitamin

Patient with CKD often lack of vitamin. One reason of this symptom is the restriction of diet, and another the other reason is abnormality of our body’s metabolism. Vitamins play an important role in the metabolism of our body, and they can improve our immunity. So enough amount of vitamin should be guaranteed in the diet.

Carbohydrates

If the patient has diabetes, he should limit the intake of carbohydrates. Otherwise, the carbohydrates may be a good resource of energy. Especially for patient with restricted intake of protein, carbohydrates can supply the calories that are decomposed by protein.

Fluid

Patient with CKD is easy to have edema, so the fluid should be restricted. The recommended value of fluid intake is the amount of yesterday plus 500ml.
