Can High Blood Sugar Caused Stage 4 CKD Develop into ESRD

Can High Blood Sugar Caused Stage 4 CKD Develop into ESRDChronic Kidney Disease is a disease whereby the kidneys have trouble expelling wastes and fluid from the body. High blood sugar (Diabetes) is a usual cause of CKD. Can high blood sugar caused Stage 4 CKD develop into End-Stage Renal Disease?

High blood sugar and Stage 4 CKD

Your kidneys can filter waste and extra fluid from your blood. When there is excessive sugar in the blood, the kidneys' filters (known as nephrons) become overworked.

Tiny blood vessels function to transport blood that needs to be filtered into the nephrons. Too much blood sugar can damage these tiny vessels, as well as nephrons. There are millions of nephrons, so the healthy ones have to work harder to make up for the damaged ones. Over time, the normal filters will become overworked and damage due to long-term high blood sugar levels. Your kidneys fail to perform their function properly.

Without effective treatment to prevent the decline of kidney function, ESRD can be caused. Dialysis or kidney transplant has to be adopted.

So people with high blood sugar and Stage 4 CKD should start a treatment plan to preserve the residual kidney function, stop its further decline, as well as improve the renal function to the fullest. Meanwhile, Diabetes should be well controlled through medication and/or diet. In this way, your kidneys can continue to work on their own.
