High Blood Pressure and Diabetes Increase Stage 4 CKD Risk

High Blood Pressure and Diabetes Increase Stage 4 CKD RiskStage 4 CKD is a chronic condition and most people with renal disease are not aware of their condition. If you have long-term Diabetes or high blood pressure, talk to your doctor about getting tested for Kidney Disease, as these conditions increase one's risk for kidney problems.

Diabetes and Stage 4 CKD

Diabetes is the number one cause of chronic kidney disease. Even when diabetes is controlled, the condition can result in CKD and kidney failure.

Diabetic kidney disease takes many years to develop. In some cases, the kidneys' filtering function is actually higher than normal in the first few years of their diabetes. Over a number of years, people with kidney problem will have small amounts of albumin leakage into the urine. As the disease develops, more albumin gets released into urine. The kidneys' filtering function begins to drop. In stage 4 kidney disease, GFR has declines to 15-29.

Overall, kidney damage rarely occurs in the first 10 years of Diabetes, and usually 15-25 years will pass before Renal Failure occurs.

High blood pressure and Stage 4 CKD

Each person has some risk of developing kidney failure due to increased blood pressure. Elevated blood pressure makes the heart work harder and, over time, can damage blood vessels all over the body. If the renal blood vessels are impaired, they may stop discharging wastes and extra fluid from the body. The extra fluid in blood vessels may then raise blood pressure even more. It is a dangerous cycle.

Hypertension is one of leading causes of kidney failure, or ESRD.

Early diagnosis is Stage 4 CKD is important. Treatment can slow down, or even prevent renal failure. And dialysis or kidney transplant can be avoided. If you would like to know more information, feel free to leave a message in the below or email us at
