Is It Possible That Kidneys Will Be Back into Normal Function

Is It Possible That Kidneys Will Be Back into Normal FunctionThe decline of kidney function is the biggest concern for kidney disease patients. If kidney function level is lower than 15%, it means the onset of end stage kidney failure. During this progression, is it possible for kidneys to be back into normal function?

Until now, a lot of treatments and medications have been created to deal with kidney disease and stop the decline of kidney function. However, the outcome of treatment plan changes from patient and patient, because of their different severity of kidney damage and stages of kidney disease.

If patients' kidney function is higher than 60%, they still have chance to regain normal kidney function.

Kidney function more than 60% indicates stage 2 or stage 1 kidney disease, and we call them early stages. In these stages, most inherent kidney cells are still working normally, while a small part of kidney cells are only damaged but necrotic. At present, some therapies are available to repair damaged kidney cells through providing enough nutritions and oxygen for these cells and increasing the self-curative ability of these cells. As long as these cells get enough nutrition and increased healing ability, they can get recovery gradually.

If patients' kidney function ranges from 30% to 59%, patients still have chance to increase their kidney function, but it is impossible to regain normal kidney function.

This is because some inherent kidney cells in this stage have been necrotic. In this case, what we can do is to protect the remaining kidney functioning cells and reverse damaged kidney cells. As long as patients' kidney function increases successfully, we don't need to worry about life-threatening complications any more.

If patients' kidney function is less than 29%, what we can do is to stop the decline of kidney function and improve patients' life quality. Only if the reserving kidney function is saved, can patients avoid dialysis and kidney transplant.
