Details: My husband is diabetic and Chronic Renal Failure patient. He has been undergoing Dialysis for one and a half years. Now he has symptom of pruritus. Can you tell me the cause of this torturous problem?

Expert Answer

Many dialysis patients may suffer from pruritus or itching at some point. The common cause of this condition is a high level of phosphorus in the body, as dialysis does not effectively eliminate phosphorus.

Another reason may be allergies to the blood tubing, dialyzer, the type of heparin or other elements involved in the treatment.

He is suggested to talk with his doctor and find the exact cause of his pruritus on dialysis. Or, you can chat with us online. After knowing more about his condition, solutions can be given to relieve his problem.
