Topics: GFR 19 creatinine 3.2

Details: My kidney doctor told me that my GFR level is 19 and creatinine level is 3.2. Is my condition serious? Which stage of CKD I am at?

Expert Answer

There are 5 stages of CKD. Below shows GFR for each stage:

• Stage 1 with normal or high GFR (GFR > 90 ml/min)

• Stage 2 Mild CKD (GFR = 60-89 ml/min)

• Stage 3 Moderate CKD (GFR = 30-59 ml/min)

• Stage 4 Severe CKD (GFR = 15-29 ml/min)

• Stage 5 End Stage CKD (GFR <15 ml/min)

If your GFR level is 19 and creatinine 3.2, you are at Stage 4 CKD. Kidney disease will progress gradually if you do not adopt effective to stop the decline of GFR. When there is 15% or less of kidney function left, dialysis or kidney transplant have to be adopted.

The good news is that you can prevent the progression of CKD if you receive effective treatment to stop the decline or renal function so as to avoid Kidney Failure. You can email us at with more about your detailed illness. Then more helpful advice can be offered to you!
