Topics: Alport Syndrome

Details: Hi, Is Alport Syndrome Curable? I am 22 years old and suffer from this disease. Is Kidney Transplant is the only choice for me?

Expert Answer

Thanks for your inquiry. I got your message from our website. I'd be more than glad if i can offer some help with your condition.

There is no cure that exists for Alport Syndrome. However, specific treatments help control the symptoms and improve kidney function, which can make you live a normal life.

Kidney Transplant is the last choice for you, but not the best choice. As mentioned above, treatments which can repair the damaged kidney tissues and improve kidney functions should be the best choice.

As long as the kidney function improves, they can work better and the symptoms will go away. And you can live a normal life, even with alport syndrome history.

The diagnosis is Alport Syndrome which is a disease featured with damage in membranous basement and the proliferation of mesangial cells. I believe you have already shown kidney damage like Hematuria, Proteinuria, increase blood pressure when you were young. Treatments for this disease should focus on protecting kidney function and treatment is the earlier the better.

Given that you are already 20 years old now I want to confirm more details on your present kidney conditions, like serum creatine level, other complications in eye sight and haring ability, as well as whether you are now on dialysis. Please reply me with more details on your present condition (contact email kidneyservice@hotmail.com). I will do my best to help.
