Topics: GFR

Details: I have gotten my urine and blood test. It says GFR 28 and BUN 41. What does it mean? Can you tell me more about my test result? Thanks. Please find attached my latest blood and urine test. I haven't done yet an ultrasound test. Thanks again.

Expert Answer

I read your test reports. Your kidney function has already been seriously damaged. Your GFR is only 28ml/min. It suggests stage 4 kidney disease. There are five stages in total. The progressing of kidney disease is like rolling down a hill. There is a critical point. When you cross the critical point, the disease will progress very fast. I hope you can receive systematic treatment early. If treated in time, your disease can still be reversed. But if delayed, it will develop to kidney failure soon. Luckily, you don't have any complications now, but there is slight increase of PTH. It is early sign of electrolytes disorder.

There is not much protein leakage yet, please don't worry. As your kidney function is not as good as before, I suggest you pay attention to your diet and take low salt low protein Diet.
