One Kidney and Not Fully Functionable: Is Dialysis A Must

Posted: by Dr.Zhao Time: 2015-05-20 15:15

Topics: Dialysis Kidney Failure

Details: I have a cousin who has only one kidney and not fully functionable. Does he need to go for dialysis?

Expert Answer

If patients only have one kidney, this kidney will be responsible for cleansing the whole body and filtering the blood. This may cause overwork easily. As time goes on, this remaining kidney will not function fully. Then, patients may be suggested to begin dialysis. Is dialysis a must?

Of course not. Just like other organs, kidneys also have self-healing ability, but this ability is limited. If the damage degree is mild, it can get recovery by itself. Otherwise, the damage degree will become larger and larger, as time goes on. Before its complete necrosis, patients should take some therapies to boost their self-curative ability and provide enough nutrition and oxygen for inherent kidney cells. Then, this kidney can be protected very well, and patients don’t need to do dialysis.

With the development of modern medicine, some therapies are indeed helpful to achieve this goal. One of them is called Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, which is based on traditional Chinese medicine and doesn’t have any side effect. According to patients’ illness condition, doctor will choose correct formula. Hopefully, you can also get benefits from this therapy.
