Topics: IgA Nephropathy IgA Nephropathy Nephropathy

Details: I am 27 years old and just diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy during pregnancy. I lost premature baby at 25 weeks. I have protein in urine and high creatinine level. Can I have a successful pregnancy with this disease?

Expert Answer

If pregnant women have kidney disease, pregnancy will produce adverse outcomes for both mother and fetus. On one hand, it may worsen the mother's kidney condition easily. On the other hand, abortion may occur easily.

Will patients with IgA Nephropathy lose the chance to have a health baby? Of course not. In fact, many women with IgAN have conceived successfully and safely, but the safe pregnancy should depend on patients' illness condition. Several factors affect these patients' pregnancy.

- The degree of renal failure: If kidney function is higher than 70%, their pregnancy rate will increase.

- The amount of protein in urine: The more protein in urine, the more dangerous IgA Nephropathy patients' pregnancy.

- High blood pressure: It is also one dangerous sign of conceiving a baby.

As the above mentioned, if IgA Nephropathy patients want to have a successfully pregnancy, they should get recommendation and suggestions from their nephrologists. Once the above problems are managed very well, they can have a healthy baby. If you need any help, you can contact the doctor online or email to
