Creatinine 3.4 for FSGS: Which Stage Kidney Disease Does It Mean

Topics: FSGS High Creatinine Level High Creatinine Level Treatment

Details: I am diagnosed with FSGS, proteinuria is 2.7 g/24h, and serum creatinine level is 3.4mg/dl. What stage kidney disease does it mean?

Expert Answer

FSGS, focal segmental glomerular sclerosis, is one common type of chronic kidney disease. In clinic, serum creatinine can be used to reflect kidney function alone or along with other blood tests like BUN and GFR. Compared with BUN and serum creatinine, GFR is more reliable to indicate kidney condition.

As you describe, creatinine 3.4 is more likely to mean patients' kidney disease has progressed into stage 3 or stage 4. In this stage, quite a part of kidney functioning tissues have been damaged or even necrotic, but fortunately, patients can still take some therapies to improve their kidney function and reverse their kidney disease.

At present, western medicines are often used to control patients' symptoms and complications, while Chinese medicines are taken to regulate the internal environment, remove immune complexes and repair impaired kidney cells. From this point, we can know the combination of western medicine and Chinese medicine is one good choice to treat FSGS with creatinine 3.4.

Of course, the prescription should depend on patients' GFR, creatinine level, the severity of complications, BUN level, and so on. Tell us about your illness condition as much as possible, so we can help you correctly.
