Why Do IgA Nephropathy Patients Have Severe Headache on Dialysis

Posted: by liangshaohua Time: 2014-12-05 01:35

Topics: Dialysis IgA Nephropathy

Details: I started dialysis today. OMG! I haven’t felt my head hurt like that since they put my shunt in. I have IgA Nephropathy and have to do dialysis since I have 9% kidney function. Any idea to deal with my headache?

Expert Answer

Headache is one common side effect of dialysis. This is because dialysis can remove extra fluid from the blood, blood volume reduces suddenly, and then blood pressure all over the body as well as brain declines. Finally, headache occurs.

Additionally, dialysis can eliminate waste products and toxins from the body quickly, but these harmful substances in brain still exist. This difference can also induce severe headache.

However, since your kidney function is 9%, you still have chance to get rid of dialysis, and Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy may be helpful.

On one hand, it can remove deposits of IgA from the body and prevent IgA immune complexes from building up in kidneys again. This can prevent your kidney function from declining again. On the other hand, this therapy can expand blood vessels and increase the self-curative ability of damaged kidney cells. Therefore, your kidney function level can increase to some extent. Once it reaches to 15%, you can live with our kidneys safely.

If you still have any question about headache, dialysis or IgA Nephropathy, you can ask the doctor online directly.
