Does Decreased Creatinine Level Indicate Kidney Function Improvement

Posted: by vipin singh Time: 2013-02-19 15:28

Topics: High Creatinine Level Kidney Function

Details: I have Kidney Disease for years and always with high creatinine levels. Recently, my creatinine levels lowers down from 2.98 to 1.72. Is it a good sign to say a kidney function improvement?

Expert Answer

Actually, there are mainly three channels to decrease creatinine, intestinal tract, sweating and urine. That is to say, single decreased creatinine can not tell whether your renal function get improved, because some medicine can promote sweating and stool. And if creatinine get removed by sweating and stool rather than by your kidney, your renal function can further decrease over time.

Anyway, you should not just care of the decrease of creatinine but also monitor your GFR and other manifestations.
