Posted: by Dr.Zhao Time: 2014-07-26 09:02

Topics: Kidney Cyst

Details: I have a few cysts on right kidney measuring 1.5 cm, 0.8 cm and 0.6 cm, and a cyst on left kidney measuring 2.1 cm. What are the treatment suggested?

Expert Answer

Since all of your kidney cysts are smaller than 3 cm, surgery isn’t recommended which can only remove large kidney cyst. Furthermore, you have more than one kidney cyst, so you had better take some conservative therapies to shrink all of your kidney cysts at the same time.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is worth a try. We know simple kidney cysts are filled with clear fluid, and cystic lining epithelial cells are responsible for secreting sac fluid to make cysts become larger and larger.

Some Chinese medicines such as semen plantaginis and lalang grass rhizome can increase the permeability of cystic walls and improve blood circulation within cystic blood vessels, so more and more sac fluid can be drained out gradually.

Some other medicines like ground beeltle can help inactivate cystic lining epithelial cells, in order to inhibit the sac fluid secretion. Without fluid filling, kidney cysts will stop to grow successfully.

Of course, many other medicines have help shrink kidney cysts, and they are suitable for different patients. To determine what medicines are helpful for you, you can consult the doctor online.
