Details: I want to prevent Kidney Failure so I am taking allopurinol 100mg twice a day. Will this stop any damage to kidneys?

Expert Answer

I don’t know why you have this opinion that allopurinol can help stop damage to kidneys. This medicine has a strong suppressive effect to xanthine oxidase, so it is commonly to treat gout. Most often, it is taken during the attack period and chronic stage for managing hyperuricemia. It can also be taken along with uricosuric agents to strengthen the therapeutic effects. However, this medicine is especially suitable for patients who have high uric acid but normal kidney function.

For patients whose kidneys have been damaged, the risk of allopurinol may be increased. That is to say, kidney patients had better not use this medicine, if they have other options.

If you are tested out high uric acid level and kidney disease, you had better take some medicines or treatments that can both eliminate uric acid and protect the remaining kidney functioning tissues.

Clear Blood Pollution Therapy is just one effective treatment option. On one hand, it can help cleanse the blood by eliminating waste products and toxins. On the other hand, it is able to improve glomerular filtration rate by increasing the blood flow into kidneys and activating the self-healing system. If you are interested about this therapy, you can firstly learn more about it from the doctor online.
