PKD, 58 Years Old, Creatinine 6.7 and BUN 79

Topics: PKD

Details: My father in law is 58 years old, and he has Polycystic Kidney Disease. The latest test report shows his creatinine 6.7 and BUN 79. What should we do for my father?

Expert Answer

Polycystic Kidney Disease is one kind of CKD that progresses gradually. As time goes on, kidney cysts become bigger and bigger. Once one of them is larger than 3 or 4cm, they will cause damage to kidney functioning tissues and other organs. In this case, a series of problems may occur.

It is reported that 50% of PKD patients around age 60 have kidney failure. When creatinine reaches 5 and BUN is higher than 60, it is more likely to indicate kidney failure. Since your father’s creatinine and BUN have been higher than these values, he may have had kidney failure. In this case, to improve his health condition, treatments should have at least two basic effects: one is shrinking kidney cysts, and the other is repairing damaged kidneys.

In view of this, your father can try Hot Compress Therapy. One big benefit of this therapy is to increase the permeability of cystic walls and inhibit the secretion of sac fluid, so cystic fluid can be drained out gradually and PKD can be controlled. The other benefit is to improve kidney function. (To learn this benefit, you can go to Hot Compress Therapy for Chronic Kidney Failure.)
