Is it Surgery Necessary to Separate the Horse Shoe Kidney

Topics: Horse Shoe Kidney Surgery

Details: My son aged 4 years has horse shoe kidney. Is there a surgery for separating the kidneys.

Expert Answer

I got your message on website about your son's horse shoe kidney. If he has no symptoms, it is unnecessary to do the operation. He is suggested to do ultrasound and this helps to see whether there is hydronephrosis or kidney stones. If it is normal, no operation is needed. But if not, surgery may be necessary, especially when severe complications or symptoms occur.
