IgA Nephropathy Stages

IgA Nephropathy has 5 stages, according to the Lee classification from WHO. Here is the information about IgA Nephropathy stages for your information.

IgA nephropathy Lee's classification is an international general pathology of IgA nephropathy classification standards of this sub-type, a total of five, is generally believed that the higher the level of patients with more severe pathological damage, kidney damage more severe degree.

Stage I Minimal Change Disease

In Stage I, patients may feel the clinical symptoms of recurrent hematuria or microscopic hematuria, gross hematuria. IgA nephropathy is the cause of hematuria immune complex deposition in the glomerular mesangial area, the occurrence of inflammatory reactions leading to glomerular filtration membrane structure change, the destruction of the normal filtering function, a large number of red blood cells from the glomerular basement membrane filtration into the urine, to form urine.

This is the mildest kidney damage level.

Stage II Mild Medical Change

In this stage, glomeruli presents with less than 50% of scarring and sclerosis. And crescent is rare to see. Usually, in this condition, the renal tubules and renal interstitium shows no damage. Compared with stage I, this stage kidney damage is more severe. In addition, microscopic Hematuria appears, which is accompanied with proteinuria sometimes, in this stage.

Stage III Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

In this stage, inflamed glomeruli spreads and widens and you may find few crescent. Renal tubules and renal interstitium pathological changes presents with focal swellings and cellular infiltration may appear rarely. And so does the renal tubule shrinkage.

When it progresses into FSGS, hypertension will become one common symptom of patients. At that time, patients might take some food which helps preventing the elevation of blood pressure.

Stage IV Diffuse Mesangial Proliferative Glomerulonephritis

Glomerular pathological change appears to have severe diffuse Mesangial proliferation and hardening. some or all glomeruli become hardened and you may see less than 45% of crescents. In stage, renal tubules shrink and renal interstitium become inflamed.

In this condition, patient appears to have a lot of urine protein. They are prone to present hypoproteinemia.

Stage V Diffuse Sclerosing Glomerulonephritis

It is the most serious stage of IgA Nephropathy. More than 45% of glomerular crescents can be seen. In this stage, about 80% of glomeruli get involved. IgA Nephropathy develops into Chronic Renal Insufficiency, or even Uremia.
